1st day of School

Today was Olivia's first day in 1st Grade!  I am still not quite sure where the time has gone and how it is possible that my little girl is so grown up.

She was beyond excited this morning to go to school!  Up by 7:30 and by 8:00 was already asking to go out and wait for the bus.  Since it was raining we drove up to the street and sat in the car waiting and waiting...the bus was over 40 minutes late, and at one point she asked me if maybe they had forgotten to pick her up.   I hope she is always this eager to go to school.

Gotta love that smile <3

I am excited for her and am praying that she has a wonderful year!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Ty & Olivia St
We had a very mischevious  leprechaun visit us last night!  He seriously got himself into some trouble while we were sleeping and ended creating a lot of chaos!

Imagine Olivia’s surprise this morning when she woke up and found that Baird the Leprechaun kissed her cheek while she was sleeping and left her clovers all over her bed & carpet.
Our when she went into the bathroom and Baird used the potty and forgot to flush leaving the water green!  Did you know Leprechauns pee green?  LOL

Baird also played with they toys and left them all over sprinkled with clovers; he was very tricky and when we poured our milk into our cups it magically turned green! (Not a hit…the kids would not drink it.)

But the hit of the morning was find a note from Baird telling the little ones that if they searched the house they might find the hidden gold pot that he left behind.  If they found it, they could keep his gold and anything else he might have forgotten during his visit last night.

Thank you Baird for making helping us start off our day with lots of fun, giggles and of course our magical clover beads to wear to school.

Than after a long and hilarious scavenger hunt we had green clover pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar and cinnamon.  Oh so Yummy!

Behavior, Chore and Potty Charts

Behavior charts are a wonderful way to get children motivated and helping them change their negative behavior.  I have been on the search the last few weeks for charts which we can implement with each one of the kids, but couldn’t really find anything that fit our exact needs.

For Olivia, I really wanted a chart that helped her work on a few of her “negative” behaviors, like the constant screaming when we brush her hair, not sharing with her brother, etc, but at the same time introduce a few easy and fun chores that will help her earn positive feedback quickly and keep her interested and motivated.

For Tyler, currently our biggest struggles with him are his hitting and the fact that he has absolutely no interest in getting potty trained.  I also want to introduce him to a few fun and quick easy chores, again easy things to keep him motivated.

Since it is impossible to find just the “perfect” chart out there I decided last night to make a list of items for each kids and make my own.  Both kids are excited about the charts and of course we sweetened the deal with a few rewards.  For every item on their chart that is completed each day, they will receive a small item at the end of the week.

We will hang the charts on their very own special frame in our kitchen and they will be in charge of putting their stickers on them when they complete a chore or are rewarded for good behavior.

Our goal is to try the charts out for an entire month and than evaluate their progress and whether or not we will continue to use.  I have read and also heard from several people that this method doesn’t always work.  We just need to be consistent!  Wish us luck :)

Random Thoughts

Definitely have tons of stuff going on right now.  Sometimes I wonder how it is that I can go weeks, sometimes months and I never get any creative ideas and than other times it feels like it all comes at once and I can't stop my mind from wondering throughout my day about what I would rather be doing.

Currently I am ....

1) Working on the kids Valentine's Day cards/gifts for their school friends
2) Putting the finishing touches on our Family Valentine Card and will send it to the printers tonight (hopefully)
3) Redoing the guest room.  I have now bought 2 different quilts which I think are just perfect and once I get home I absolutely hate the way they look on the bed. :(  Back to Home Goods tomorrow to make another return.
4) Excited to show Olivia her new quilt & pillows for her room.  It is a surprise and tomorrow afternoon after we get back from Ballet we will finish her room.
5) Totally in love with the "antique wooden truck and fire truck" I found today for Tyler's room.

And much much more...I am keeping a list of ideas/projects that I want to accomplish and it just keeps on growing.

Another Snow Storm

It feels like this winter is never going to be over!  As much as I love snow we have been getting hit almost every week with a huge snow storm.  This morning we woke up to another 11 inches and I decided to go out and enjoy the actual beauty of it (since I didn't have to drive in it - LOL) and took a few pictures.

It was absolutely gorgeous and I have to admit that I loved having my first cup of coffee while enjoying the beauty of the snow and how amazing the trees looked.

I ventured out to the top of our driveway to get a picture of our house!  It looks so peaceful!

Its the little things….

I am taking the time each and everyday to just enjoy the “little things” that happen throughout the day that make me stop and smile.  Like yesterday, Tyler was so happy to just run back and forth from the Family Room and Play Room in order to gather his trains and tracks.  Yes, a part of me wanted to say, “No, leave them in the playroom”, but I am so glad that I stopped myself.  He was just so happy and proud of himself.  That huge smile he gave me was so worth the extra 10 minutes at the end of my day to clean up his toys and put them back into the playroom.

The reality is that having a perfectly picked up home is not as important at the end of the day, as it is to know that your child had fun!  I am trying hard to remember this and not let myself get upset when I look up and find my family room or kitchen in complete and total chaos.

PS.  Do you like his outfit?  My little boy loves to change his clothes about a hundred times a day, and all by himself.  Which means that he usually does not match!!!!!  LOL

XOXO

2011 Goal # 1

 2103001079_39c6a41b0e

Every year I try to come up with a list of goals that I would like to accomplish during the upcoming year.  I usually try to start by reviewing what our life was like the previous year and try to think of ways that I can improve our day to day and our family life.

One of the things that I have been working on for the past few months is the excess materialist things we have in our home.  I can’t even begin to say how overwhelming it can be to see how much we have and how 80% of our home is filled with things that aren’t really productive or needed in any way.   In many ways I know this is mostly “ME”, which really made me sad.  I am the type of person that is impulsive when it comes to buying and very rarely really think how something will be used prior to getting out my wallet and making the purchase.

This is going to take a while and I know will be hard for me, however I am making myself a promise that for anytime I purchase something I will need to evaluate how it will be used and if its really a “NEED” or just a “WANT”.

This process is already underway and I have started out by tackling our Walk-In closet which was seriously a few weeks ago anything but a Walk-in. LOL  I took 2 days in which I removed every single item into our bedroom and purged, purged, purged.  WOW, all I can say is I have an addiction to clothes, shoes and purses.  I was able to donate 6 bags of both my clothes and Ryan’s clothes to a shelter.
The key to continuing on the right track is that anytime we buy  something we will have to take something out and donate it or throw it away.

The hardest part of this process for me will be the “home items”.   The fact that I have 6 sets of everyday dishes, 3 sets of glasses, etc., is proof that I have way too much.  I will be taking a room each month and will try to pair down on decorative items and anything that is not of value to us.

My #1 goal is to un-clutter our home and be smart about anything that we bring back inside.

2011 “One Little Word”

3155161790_d987208316
(Picture from flickr.com)

I have been thinking for a few weeks now about what word I would like to use to live my year by.  I kept on coming up with two words: Happy & Home and really could not make up my mind which one I would like to use.  They are both equally important to me and so I have decided to use both and make my “mantra” for this year “HAPPY HOME”.
Why these words?  Well lets see…

HOME:  I want to revamp our “HOME” which is our safe haven and give us all a place where we will be happy, flourish, and above feel loved and safe.

HAPPY:  I want to recapture our “Happiness”.  Really this is something that in the last year I think I have lost a little of.  We can become so overwhelmed and stressed out over our day to day, and many times can only focus on the negative and not see all of the HAPPY things that surrounds us.

I want to stop and enjoy every little “happy” moment and ensure that my children see me smile and laugh more.  Above all I want to learn how to be happy again and stop feeling guilty.  Guilty is such a horrible feeling!  It can completely consume you and literally paralyze us from living our lives.

On another note, I am almost done with my list of goals that I would like to accomplish and will post them soon.

“Happy Home” to all of you!

Happy Birthday To Me!!!!

Saturday was my 34th Birthday and I thought a lot about all the things that I have wanted to do in the last 10 years that I have yet to accomplish.  I made a list and hope to at least make it through 1/2 of it by my 35th!
No. 1 on my list was a Tattoo!!!  I have wanted one since I turned 18, but for numerous reasons, including my mom is totally against it I never did it.  Well the wait is over.  On Sunday we packed up the kids and drove over to Pt. Pleasant where we engaged my In-laws to watch our little ones and to the Tattoo parlor we went.  Long story short, there was over an hour wait for the tattoo artist I wanted so Ryan took the kids back home and yes I went and got my very 1st Tattoo with my MIL Catherine!  It was fun, she made me laugh so hard that I thought I was going to cry from it.  When I thought I was going to jump off the chair when he started it, she looked at me and told to sit the hell down and do it.
I do have to say…..it HURT, HURT, HURT, HURT like hell, but it was so worth it!

A New Beginning …

Yesterday while browsing my favorites on my computer I came across the link for this long forgotten blog.  It took me completely by surprise how much I actually cherish being able to read all the old posts and see exactly what was going on at that time in my life.  The truth of the matter is that as much as we think that we will remember all the little things in our daily life with not only our children but within us, the opposite is actually true.

I made myself a promise for the new year that I will start to blog every week and try to record all the little things that are going on in our lives.  It is really going to be more of a “diary” for us and I will try to either print the blog every year or every other year.  It will be nice to be able to sit back and read it all with my children as they get older.

And so today it is the “New Beginning” for me and our family stories.  I can’t wait to see what we will have accomplished in 2010!

Happy New Year to all!

Last year today….

We were welcoming this beautiful little boy into our lives.

The last 12 months he as brought so much joy into our lives.  He is such a sweet tempered little boy always ready to snuggle and smiling.  Even though a part of me is really not ready to accept that my “baby” is growing up so fast, the other part of me is so excited to see what this next year will bring us.

I am so thankful to GOD for gifting me with him and for allowing me to be his mommy!

Happy Birthday my Sweet Tyler!

I don’t like the grass…….

This is my sweet little guy on Sunday Afternoon…doesn’t he look so happy?

I decided to set up a blanket and enjoy the warm weather while we watched Olivia play on the swings.  It was going really well until he started crawling and his hands hit the lawn.  WOW, did he ever freak out!!!!  Anytime his hand would skim the lawn he would start crying hysterically.  Isn’t that funny?  He hates the feel of it.  My poor boy.

Not to worry, I just sat next to him and made sure that he would not crawl close to the edges of the blanket and finally I got some smiling pictures.

We even took a turn on rock climbing and he loved it.  His little hands and feet were everywhere and he tried so hard to make his way up.

I am so looking forward to beautiful spring days spend outside playing and hopefully soon Tyler will get a liking to being out on the lawn and actually touching it.  One can hope right?  Otherwise it will be an interesting spring & summer.

Spring…

Spring is finally here!  I love the to look out into our yard and see all the beautiful tulips, the birds are chirping and flying all around.

spring

Today is 85 degrees!  Can you believe it?

The kids and I are planning to stay outside and run around the freshly mowed lawn, use the swings until we are exhausted and for Olivia lots of time on the slide and rock wall.

Have a Wonderful Day!

Mother Nature Made This Little Girl Very Happy Today....

Olivia was so excited to see snow this morning when we came downstairs.  She glued her face to the window in our family room and must have asked me a thousand times to go outside.

  • Breakfast was never eaten in such a timely manner as today.  I really don't think she chewed her toast, she just swallowed it whole.
  • Getting dressed again WOW it was fast and not once did I hear..."I don't want to wear that", followed by a temper tantrum.
  • Getting our coat and boots on...again no fight.  I think she had her boots in her hand even before I asked her to get them.

Let's just say that I wish it snowed everyday....
